These activities are focused on providing some Middle School aged Gallatin Valley youth an opportunity to learn more about various outdoor activities that are available locally. Below is a typical summer schedule.
Week 1 - Wilderness 101 Monday - Learning about compasses and enjoy a treasure hunt at East Gallatin Recreation Area. Tuesday - Camping and fire safety up at Hyalite, leaving the Story Mill Community Center at 9:00. Wednesday - Hiking drinking horse and learning about Lewis and Clark, nature sketching. Leaving Story Mill Community Center at 9:15. Thursday - Going to Legions Park and Bozeman beach to play survival games leaving Story Mill at 9:00.
Week 2 - Mountain Biking Monday - Riding around Story Mill Community center and East Gallatin Recreation Area. Tuesday - Ride around the Story Hill trails leaving at 10:15. Wednesday - Bike around the Painted Hill Trails around highland Blvd., leaving at 9:20. Thursday - Bike at the BMX track leaving at 9:10.
Week 3 - Fly Fishing Monday - talk about fly fishing and learn how to tie knots at the Story Mill Community Center. Tuesday - Go to the Fish Hatchery, leave at 9:10. Wednesday - Learn how to cast, and go over to East Gallatin Recreation Area to practice casting. Leaving at 9:45. Thursday - Fish! Go over to Bozeman Ponds at 9:10 and let the kids practice their new skills.
Week 4 - Park games Monday - Leave at 10:00 and go to Kirk Park and learn how to skate board. Tuesday - Go bouldering and birding in Story Mill community park. Wednesday - Leave at 9:10 to go over to Lindley, learn about hammocks and slack lining. Thursday - Competitions and games that the kids chose to play in Story Mill Community Park.
Week 5 - Water World Monday - Playing fun water games at Story Mill Community Park Tuesday - Go to hyalite and hike palisades or history rock leaving at 9:15 Wednesday - Paddle Boarding and beach games at east Gallatin rec Thursday - White water rafting the Gallatin, Leaving SMCC at 8:00
Week 6 - Water World- this week is the same as the first water world week.
